It is a 2:1 mrl under slung car , the gov drops the jaw the car goes on safety and then from what I can see looking at the gov , the gov jaw pops up it resets and the car drops again and then the gov pops up and resets all the way down the shaft ! Has anyone had this problem ? I never seen this happen before

What happened to the governor switch, or the sos switch? Something isn't wired right. Also you are probably not setting the safeties. You need to get on the car top and set the safeties on inspection speed to see what is going on. This sounds a little hinky.

The gov switch trips ,the SOS trips , the elevator stops for a second then runs away....we r overhauling the elevator by jumping up both brakes to force it...... This car is not turned over yet , we failed our test because of this problem everything is tripping at the right speed...I have a video of the gov as this is happening ......just don't know how to post it...

When the gov jaws release the rope how far does the car drop before the jaws set again? I have seen high speed cars do something similar due to the cwt inertia/drop picking the car just enough to release the safeties but it always stopped that car.

I'm assuming these are type B safeties, can you see how much slide you are getting on the first set?

I would contact HW.

John jay I am sorry if I am not explaining it right ... It's a mrl it has a normal brake and a emergency brake that acts like a rope gripper.... We r lifting the brakes electrically with the SOS and the gov switch jumped so the gov jaw will drop and apply the safeties without stopping electrically ....the safeties apply for a second and then car jumps off and then the gov will reset itself cause the gov rope is jumping up too I guess like the car and then it will start to go down over speeding the gov trips the jaw , safeties apply and then jumps off again

Green pants I am thinking what u r too with the cwt pulling the car up its a under slung car with 7 - 5/16 ropes and it is cwt balanced at 50% it is a 2500 capacity car so they r very slinky... This happened late Friday so tomm.( mon) we will be taking a better look at it to watch the ropes , the cwt, and another thing is the rope springs r on the car side so I don't know if that is helping .... Doesn't look like it slides at all on the safeties and yes they r type b safeties ...we will probably be calling hollister tomm. If we can't get it to stay by losing up on the safety springs or moving the rope springs to the cwt side..... Thanks for your input will let u guys know what happens....

Tommy why are you shorting out the safety gear/gov contacts? Is this just for ease sake? I do know MRL safety clearances are very small, and the fact that the speeds are slow so they wont slide very much, unless they are driving thru the knurls, which is why the shorting of the safeties is strange.

Never jump out the SOS during a over speed safety test. That could be your problem if it doesn't shut the car down once the safeties set. I would follow the testing procedure by MCE. Most inspectors want to see you electrically drive it to over speed like the manufacture recommends.

I assume you have a full load on the car.If so I would say you are not getting enough slide on the rails after the safeties set. You probably have to adjust the springs on the safeties. The rope springs are not the problem. Have you checked the pull through on the Governor? You do need to check the set marks on the rail, to make sure both sides are setting correctly.

Ok guys thank you for your input ..... I oiled the ropes and the car is staying locked on the rail with the safeties engaged....apparently the cwt was being pulled up more than Normal because of the ropes being locked on the motor sheave......to answer your question when performing this safety test the book tells u to jump out the gov,and the SOS switch so they are sure the elevator is stopping mechanically not electrically ....and when it doesn't move they want u to flip it on inspection...I can send anyone that wants video of the gov and the car top and cwt as this problem was occurring......thanks again for your input .....

Also I do have full load(2500) in the car and I measured the slide on the rails to be 6"...... This was a brand new machine only a week old , so it wasn't worn in at all like usual .....running it to install all hatch equitment and so forth....it is a 350fpm car so not really fast car but if u c this video it is something else ! So please send me your e mails so u can check out what I was seeing....
