Hey everyone,

I have a PANA 40+ safety edge which is intermittently allowing the car door to shut despite the presence of obstacles. The only two situations where I could think of this happening would be if it were on fireman's service (because of smoke) or if it were in nudging but neither is the case here. Manufacturer is being dodgy and not responding to my calls about the issue. Has anyone here ever had or heard of a similar issue?

Need a lot of more information, what brand, type and vintage elevator is this? What type of elevator- freight or passenger? What type of door operator?

Is the whole edge being blocked or just part of beam like a cart.Why I ask is that I have been told that the unit will disregard beams as false if only one set is fired or blocked,an will timeout an close

Why don't you have an elevator contractor take a look at your problem. It should be easy enough to fix, it may not be your Pana 40 that is faulting, it could very well be something else.

The safety edge has a very basic function. When something blocks the recievers view of the light ray transmitter, the safety edge sends a signal to the elevator controller to stop the doors from closing and then re-open the doors.

If your doors are closing with an obstruction in the safety edges view, it could mean you need a new safety edge. But there maybe something else going on as well. I recommend you have a licensed & insured elevator service company come and trace out your trouble and make the nessasary repairs. Keep in mind that you have acknowledged a safety issue with your equipment. If someone were to get hurt while entering the elevator, you are liable for neglecting to provide for the safety to the people who utilize you elevator...

Why sure I 've had it happen. Seems about maybe 2 or 3 years ago there were a batch of Pana 40+'s that fit this failure description. Stand in the doorway...door times out and the thing closes on you. Solution...HAVE IT REPLACED...THE ENTIRE SYSTYEM, before someone gets injured and Mr. Bldg Owner and whoever else takes it in the shorts. And IF this is your case sir - use an qualified licensed elevator contractor.
