Has anyone converted the Otis touch tub buttons to the Adams solid state button alternative? Is it plug and play or do you need to alter the base and the entire hoist way to that button for it to work properly?

We have a building that's been giving us issues with self-firing tubes and car calls holding shutting the elevator down on the held button floor.

I, myself, don't have much experience with that particular generation of Otis but my colleges do. Unfortunately they aren't much help.

Install the modules and new buttons. Pretty straight forward. Buy a couple of extra though, i did have a couple fail on me.

I was always told to remove cover and wipe hall fixture and touch module with a clean rag...It seemed to eliminate or correct the false firing of the button...The oils and dust that migrate from hands cause problems!

halfpick - ya thats what ive been doing which seems to fix it temporarily. thats why i was considering the adams alternative to try and rid of it completely.


J Sand - Do I need to do the entire installation or can I only do problematic floors?

i have done a couple of the ada conversions with the innovation and adams modules and have ended up with fewer problems but still had false fires and calls not being cancelled. the only conversion that truly has worked right is the otis conversion but it is a lot of work. a new cop with otis micro motion buttons is installed which is nice for a later mod. a box is mounted on the car top with adapter modules but the real work is that you have to re wire from the t-cable junction under the car to the car top and back down to the cop. same goes for the hall buttons but its done at the selector. its a lot of work but it works right.

With these you can do the problematic floors as needed.

Green pants - forget that mind as well mod it.

Btw. Is greenpants an indirect association to Otis?

i just work for the big O. they have kept me working for 10 years without bouncing a check but ill stand by my union brothers anywhere. we joke the reason otis gets a few cents more on our locals travel agreement is because we have to wear the flashy green pants.

i personally feel otis engineers a lot of good stuff and some flops just like any other company. agreed if you are only changing a couple of buttons the modules work. the jobs i have done like this were for ADA upgrades with the intention to do a mod in a few years.

If you are having false firing problems change the capacitors in the circut that runs the buttons over the years these dry out and will cause this., I used to know the location of these but haven't had them in along time. They work great once you do this also make sure the voltage is correct I think it's 150 volts or so. I have a write up somewhere amidst the piles and piles of papers from the big O
