Question for all you Ace Otis Hands out there? Especially "Green Pants."

Older Otis wiring diagrams always start with a number such as 5-1S7*****. Question is what dose the that first number signify?

Sheet #GS27-4012, date June 3, 1955. GS27- note is -ARR for (2) 68594?? cam devices. Front & Rear ... Rectifier Arranged.
The GS27 in this case refers to a Otis mod of AC controller with a DC overlay for a new retiring cam motor and cam motor- ?automatic gate closer? Also changed was a direct AC brake for DC brake and a DC brake control panel was added. Original Sheet #4012, date July 19, 1920.

Sheet #GS4-3329F, date April 16, 1954 (condensed? wiring diagram). GS4- note- Added Potential Switch.
The expanded wiring diagram GS4-3329F starts #3329D, date March ?, 1917,then #3329E March 26, 1917, then #3329F May 10, 1917. Ends #GS4-3329F, date April 16, 1954. Assume #3329 is the original sheet #.
As far as your question about the later number designations, Christy Collett, I don't know but started at least by 8-CIF6834A, date start 1,24,1949. final? Jan 16, 1953.

Pretty sure the 8 is a job specific of the C1S/F6834A. Could be an additional non-standard key switch installed or some special feature. Most of the time it is not important unless you are working on a special feature. The S/F designates a S for straight line and F for field. For example there may be 5 jobs in the USA that use this diagram with some special feature. If wondering why the old Otis Prints had crazy symbols and did not match the Electrical Standard symbols. The answer is when Otis made wiring diagrams in the old days, those were symbols that could be made on a typewriter.

OTIS CONTROLLERS DESIGNATION CODING
AC or DC Resistance Control: 2 digit #, a letter, another # and 1 or 2 letters.
2 digit # indicates relitive size of control.
1st letter indicates type of control A=AC power supply - AC switches (relays)
D=DC power supply - DC switches (relays)
N=AC power supply - DC switches (relays)
H= Hydraulic machine - AC power supply - DC switches
single # indicates number of accelerating switches.
0=across the line starting
1=1 accelerating switch. 1 speed AC or 2 speed DC with field control.
2=2 accelerating switches. 1 speed AC or 2 speed DC with field control.
3=3 accelerating switches. 1 speed AC or 2 speed DC with field control.
6=2 speed AC with accelerating switch.
7=2 speed AC without accelerating switch or 2 speed DC with by-pass.
8=2 operating speeds or 2 speed with 2 motors.
2nd letter indicates type of operation
A=operatorless
B=single automatic push button
C=collective push button
D=double button or dual light
E=escalator
J=single push button collective
K=car switch
P=residence elevator, push button
S=signal control
T=two stop collective
W=multi button dumbwaitor
X=two stop dumbwaitor
3rd letter (when used) L=automatic leveling

OK, Have the above. My question is in the case of 8-CIF6834A the prefix "8" could be any number. Such as "7" for the same basic diagram. Question what does the 8 or 7 or whatever indicate.
