step band under speed fault - changed out soft starts and ran for a day now giving this fault again

have you checked the frequency of the encoder vs the escalator fpm,
I would also look closely at the Brake, may may be rubbing and heating up the disc as the day goes on.

Back out motor check encoder has 2 sets of Allen screws usually they loosen up put loctite and blow out area
