I requested a air compressor to clean out some junked up motors and gens on a couple jobs. I got a big red aerosol can of motor wash spray. My boss was real excited that he found a cheap fix for grounded gens. Anyway, has anyone ever had any success or nightmares with this stuff for elevator application?
Not a good idea, bag one end with a sucker and blow from the other end with a compressor- be sure to capture as much dust as possible. The best way to clean it is to remove it and have the motor shop dip it.
Blow them out and like E311 said, capture as much dust as possible. A liquid wash down will cause pooling of carbon dust and expect a fire !!!!! LOL !!!
Worked with a guy who spent 15 years in the motor shop and he said a full 3/4s of all elevator stuff was from carbon dust. Blow them out dry once a year and you repairs will be cut by 50% or more no question about it.
Hell....you have to admit...cleaning a machine room,generator and controller you can find problems while doing it...The older westinghouse jobs....Mechanic always looked on the floor first cause the jobs were so clean...Actually that was my job as a helper. I learned alot for those guys...
Never wash unless you can see where all of it is going. Like someone else said, it will collect in a spot that you can't see and go kaboom when you energize it...or soon after.
