Have a miprom 21 with a analog dc drive. the car continues to intermittently get a 18 fault. it will run for a day and in the morning it will be at the bottom shut down. sometimes it will show no faults under the service log, but it will say no retries left under the motion excuse screen 18. tell it to resume operation and all is well . we have been thru all the locks, the m contactor, replaced the power supply. if it does log a fault , in the fault log it will have an 18. along with no retries 18 under motion excuses. the mechanic indicated that he had it happen to him today. he had reset the fault, and was running the car, he went to leave and rode the car to the bottom floor where he gave it a couple of calls, the doors closed and it would not run he went to motor room and same thing. kind of strange any ideas

If it happens only at the bottom, perhaps you have a bad travel cord. There is a note on this, that if you get a 100 18 00 on the service log, you may need to rebuild your floor table. You could also have the door lock bouncing at the bottom floor as you start to leave the floor.

I'm just woundering is there any DS LEDs on? Is the burden resistor loose on the feedback board? TB-1(1), TB-1(3) loose? Is #80=6?
Make good choices,

I had something close to that problem and it ended up being that the governor cable would sway and reopen a switch at the bottom that the controller wanted closed. If your cable is near any of the terminal switches take a look.I know its odd and its not like the gov cable was just put there but after awhile I guess the switch contacts get flaky and wont tolerate as much movement as they did at first.

this one is being a real pain in the ass, replaced all the relays in that were in the safety circuit, and it ran for a week and started getting 17 errors, cop stop switch opening, strange thing is that it shuts the car down, it has to be reset as the motion excuse said no more retries 17. so anyway we decided to jump out the cop stop switches to see if was just the stop switches or trail cable. car runs for a week with no errors, then we just stop by to check on the errors, and car is running, but it has a bunch of 18 errors, 10 to be exact, however car is still running. so I'm scratching my head now. we leave it run and now it is shutting down every other day or so with motion excuse of 18 no retries left. this one has me stumped. going to try the msu board next, ill take a look at hoist way switches greg, car is always floor level, never occupied, I'm thinking maybe the M contactor is somehow not dropping sometimes. maybe pr relay is sticking in, I'm going to try and simulate that and see if i get the error.

Don't forget those bifurcated relays in the speed box located at the bottom of the controller. Using normal type IDEC, MONTGOMERY or OMRON relays will give you intermittent troubles. Gotta use the low current ones (OMRON 4YZN?) Seeing how your error is at the bottom consistently, I'd think that's a clue.

oh yes elm we know about the bifurcated relays, when we took the job over someone had put regular relays in a few of the cars, and a lot of 38 errors, we have them all changed out, so i had the route guy go by and change the pr relay out just for the hell of it, after he was done, he said the car would not leave the bottom floor, he indicated that U relay would not pick, the led was dim, it tried a few times chattered, and then it would log the error and shut down. Had him replace the little UA relay, and all was well, hopefully it finally showed itself, but time will tell. thanks again for the replies everyone

When you are stopped and at floor level, ST is held in through the nc RL1, nc aux M switch contact, and nc SB, P2,and BC.The kicker is it only happens at the bottom level. If it happens when you are trying to leave the bootom floor, then you hold ST up with DG1 and DG2,IR and P. you might try jumping around the IR contact since it is up all the time except when you are on inspect. You could have a bad traveler in the inspection circut. Just to eliminate it. I am not sure if it is physically possible to clip this or not. Just a thought.

Good find. I wonder why only at the bottom level. You would think it would happen anywhere you have an up demand.

One thought on this is that the L2A voltage may be low, that can cause any number of unexplainable problems.

could have been just a coincidence since the car always homes back to the lobby , i believe the route guy said it was down once near the top. it was a good one
