Looking at replacing a wye delta mechanical starter with a soft start on a MCE HMC-1000 hydro(green boards). Does anyone know if there is a way to set it up for a soft start so the I/Os aren't looking to see the auxs on wye and delta?

I see how you can do it in the ASME 2000 version MCE manual where you can choose between wye delta, across the line and a solid state starter in the programming menu, but I can't find it anywhere in the menu on this controller. This controller was manufactured in 2003 under ASME 96 if that makes any difference.

There is nowhere to choose a soft starter in the menu, but it can be wired in to work. There is a timer for the wye delta start. You have to take the wires from the auxiliaries to the soft start in a way that still uses this timer. Wires for the wye and delta coils hit the same terminal on the soft start. The timer still switches from one to the other but since they are on the same terminal, the soft start never sees it. Hope this makes some sense.

the controller doesn't monitor the auxiliary contacts, they just electrically interlock the 2 contactors and the other one on Y starts the BB timer. It is best not to use the timer in the circuit at all, I remove it completely and keep it, wire the up to speed contact to the BB terminal and clip the other timer wires flush. This way the BB relay becomes an up to speed relay to pick the valve coils when the motor is actually up to speed, not whenever the timer expires. Use 4 for control power not 2 so the fault contactor drops when safe is open. Take Run from AA, I use an MTA punch down tool to wire right to AA on the MTA plug.
