Montgomery had a muffler that would break apart internally. Pieces would get into the system and wreak havoc. The fix was to add a screened clean out to the to the line. Then periodically remove the debris. Over time the system was cleaned. After this happened, all the units with that particular Muffler were replaced before they broke up.
