I have a 2 stop 2003 Cemco Lula with Fire Phase 1&2. When the elevator is in recall and a hoist way door is opened the elevator continues to run. In normal operation the elevator stops running when the hoist way door is opened. In my hoist way door lock wiring at the controller I have a wire that goes to the circuit board to an unmarked terminal, I believe it is an output. When I remove this wire the elevator will stop when a hoist way door is open during recall but when the door is shut the elevator will not resume operation. I have to manually lower the elevator to the 1st floor to resume operation. I think its an issue in the programming or software. Has anyone ever seen this before? I know Cemco is out of business and getting new software or reprogramming is next to impossible. The elevator is shut down and locked out at this time.

No matter what, normal, fire service, or any other service, the elevator will not run with an open door lock. That has to be a wiring mistake. Does the unit have hoistway access at the top, or bottom floor? If so you should look there for a wiring problem.

Totally agree that a elevator should never run with a hoist way door open no matter the circumstance. The unit does not have hoist way access. Even when the elevator is in recall and I remove the door lock wires from the terminal strip it continues to run.

Never saw that before and in addition, I did not think Phase two was allowed on a LU/LA in any event.

That aside... does it matter if any hoist way door is open and/or a car door is open?

What is the status of the door lock input when it will run with a door open?

I would agree that other than hoistway access it should never run if a door lock is open. If you do need support on these Custom elevator in Pennsylvania supports a lot of the old CEMCO stuff and we have gotten support from them on a couple older LULAs. I believe ESI(elevator systems Inc) in New York actually made most of their controllers.

Does this only happen in the up direction?

Just wondering if someone had wired that door lock into the in-car stop switch by accident which will override on recall.

I did not try the the car door. The the hoist way door input stays lit with the hoist way door open in fire recall.

I did talk to Bill Heller at custom but he was not sure. I will try ESI thanks.

When I have the factory wire that I pulled out, the elevator will stop when I open a hoist way door going up in recall. But when I shut the hoist way door the elevator will not restart and I have to manually lower to the first floor to reset. If I open the hoist way door with the factory wire pulled while the elevator is in recall but coming back the the main floor the elevator will stop and restart when the hoist way door is shut.

NY Guy
That was my thought on a wiring issue but I can pull all my hoist way door lock wiring out of the terminal strip and the unit will still run with doors open in recall only. In normal operation if the hoist way door in opened the unit will stop and restart when the hoist way door is shut just fine.

Thanks guys

So the car traveling down in Phase I will stop, then restart, and continue down to the fire recall floor, with the unknown wire off of the terminal, correct? Then if the car is traveling to an up call, and the car goes into Phase I, and you open the HW door it will stop, but not re-start. This also with the wire off, correct? It seems to be the safest with the wire off, as long as everything checks out in normal service. Correct? So the problem becomes how to get the car to re-start back down to the fire floor in Phase I. This is what I gather out of this. It could be a parameter or bad CPU, or bad input/output. You need to see what relays, inputs/outputs are high or low when the issue occurs. Is there another unit to look at? Also if the car is too close to the bottom floor when it goes into recall, it may not search down. Just some thoughts. good luck.

The only CEMCO print I have is from 2001 and does not have Fire Service in it. On this print the start of the car and hoist way door lock circuit is terminal 36, which is fed from the car and hoist way safety string. The end of the hoist way and car string door lock is terminal 35 and that goes through a n/o contact of PF and feeds input 35 on the plc. According to this print the entire car and hoist way door circuit is between 36 and 35 some where, if your print is like that, start back tracking your locks till you get to the wiring issue. I would assume by your troubleshooting so far some one has put another wire at the end in terminal 35 at the end of it.

You are correct in the explanation of the issue.

When I get back on site i will look over the prints again but this sounds correct. I can remove all field wiring from the terminal strip for the door locks and the unit will still run in recall.

It’s most likely an ESI controller. If it is the ESI LULA controller? The are door lock bypass switches and there are contacts like Z and VC that bypass the door circuit.

Make good choices,
