Strange problem on a job we just picked up. The unit is a six stop duplex. The route guy called me and said that the car would not register or latch the top floor car call (6th). The car call can however be set via the service tool but the call button does not latch or register via the car station. We tried changing the RS call button modules in the car station with two newer modules but still no luck. The job does have floor security but independent service overrides this. I verified the floor security inputs where non active by 1) comparing the signals to the other functioning car 2) trying the car on independent service an 3) swapping the RS -modules that the security is wired to between cars. I tried swapping the 4 pin serial link plugs in the car station thinking that maybe we had a bad connector. We have another of these jobs which seems to be notorious for bad connectors. Any clues guys?

car might be set up on generic security, check i/o's for cardreader contacts on the 6th floor and make sure they are shut off like the other floors. or turn off card reader in software either way works.

not sure what a qrs is but on otis serial link equipment card reader operation or secure access(button code) will flash the light on the button for a sec but not latch the light. when floors are secured with otis ems the button will not light at all. if you dont have ems and the button doesnt light, the i/o for the 6th floor car call is probably off or misadressed. if the button does light for a sec you have security or card reader programed wrong. does the call work on phase 2? that bypasses all security and will let ya know if the call works or security.

That is a good idea with respect to the fire service . I'll give that a shot tomorrow and let you know.

Hey Mr.GreenPants do you have any info on a DBF fault. The car runs on inspection fine. When you put back into auto it will correct down to the nearest floor and then run to the bottom floor. Once it stops it shuts down on a DBF status. None of the fault lights on the VVVF drive fault board are lit. For some reason the book we have which seems to have a ton of information on everything else, says nothing about this fault. For a bit of history I got called out to this job because the route guy was having brake problems with the small circuit board behind the power terminals on the drive. I believe the output was BX1 and BX2 which pick the brake relay. The board was sent to the repair shop and re-installed. Then we got side tracked into the RS car call problem which is still pending but I will need to fix the fault condition first. I have since learned that the fault is a drive brake fault, but I have no other information than that. I'd appreciate any info you can give me.

off the top of my head, the drive gets a few 30v feeds from a couple of rs3 boards and if the drive has a problem the input to the RS board goes low and the RCB shuts down in DBF mode(drive brake fault). the board you had repaired might not have been repaired right or the RS3 board might be bad, those older RS board are starting to fail but can be easily replaced with a newer RS5. all otis RS boards do the same thing from 1989-present. the SCIO or CUB board could be bad also. im pretty sure there is a couple of hoistway switch inputs the car has to see on a correction run at the first floor. MRQ's have been know to lock faults in ram have you cleared the pf ram? also if the write/protect switch was left in write on the RCB a power bump or failure can change i/o's. MRQ's are a guessing game sometimes, unfortunately some parts are getting hard find.

My thanks to GreenPants. You were right on. We had a bad CRS1 module. This job doesn't have a RCB board but it was the serial module that sends 4 signals to the drive. Problem solved.

Yep. It'll have RCB written on it as well. Never seen a Spec without one.

It did fix the call button problem as well although we are not sure why. In this case we are just glad it worked. This car has no RCB or at least the one that slides in beside the LCB and CUB card. It had a slot for one though. It has an LCB,CUB and SCIO and then about 6 of the RS cards along the top. Maybe the other car has one but I don't recall seeing it.
