Hi guys

Currently have an intermittent fault that can’t see to resolve. Controller registers the following errors:

MPI-C Landing system A position deviation; MPI-C Unexpected direction drop; MPI-C Landing system B position deviation.

We have tried replacing the tape head, encoder, swapped boards from other duplex controller aswell as the drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'm assuming you have the magnetic tape? If so, good chance it has been damaged somehow, and a section of it has become weak.

Give the tape a good cleaning and look for any damaged spots. Make sure the guide isn't worn. Check tape tension. Usually the back of the print has a section on the elgo selector, use this to check your clearances especially at the top and bottom of the hoistway. If this is a motion 4000 or 2000 ( red board ) you can flip up F3 and scroll through until you see a selector position section. It will show car position read by the selector head A and B. Run the car up and down the hoistway on inspect and look for any large deviation of the numbers while running indicating a bad spot on the tape or other issue. If the numbers dont deviate more than expected after several runs it wouldnt hurt to try a hoistway learn. We've had a lot of problems with outdoor elevators with this selector. The tape will get dirty and wear the guide out if not cleaned somewhat regularly.

edit: geared or gearless? these things don't like rollback so if its a gearless machine make sure rollback on takeoff is minimal

Thanks for the information. We have tried all the above aswell with no joy. It is not the magnetic tape system and it is a geared machine. Another point to mention is this happens outside of door zone within a 3ft span of the door zone and we have replaced the tape aswell.

I have the same issue happening, always around the third landing. We have the encoder running on the rail for positioning. Was told the change of direction fault could be caused by clipping the door lock. Was also told to look for dirt on the rail or it could be ropes jumping on sheave, i don’t believe that one. We have cleaned off the rail and adjusted the door lock at the 2nd and third. According to the tenants they have only noticed an issue in the up direction. Is your fault happening throughout the hoistway or only in one area?
