Hello fellas....

I've got a problem with an Otis 300c. The lift will run on test control but when the lift is on normal it will sit at the lower ground floor and park with the doors open. I try to reset the processor but the buttons on the logic board will not cycle through the perameters and when the door shuts, all lights on the logic board illuminate but it will not move. There is a large amount of water in the pit and there has been a problem with the logic board going down before. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks fellas!!

Could it be on Fire Service phase 1?

James, Are you an elevator mechanic? If so, do you have a diagnostic tool that will identify which faults are occurring?
Good Suggestion Robert! It could be something simple like Fire Service or a parking feature is activated.
We need more information to dig into this more.....

Thanks for the reply Robert. The lift isn't on fire service. There is another lift (sorry I'm in England!!) with the same controller. I compared all inputs on the functioning logic board to the faulty one and they all match. The fact that the faulty lift logic board wouldn't allow me to cycle through the perameters i.e A,F,1,2 etc but the controller which is on service allows you to cycle the perameters lead me to suspect the board. Also the digital indicator shows "0" where it should and usually shows -1 which again leads me to suspect that perameters have been lost out of the board. Admin....I am a lift engineer working in England.

Pit being waterlogged, may have some slow down switches, messed up, giving a selector loss..

It Don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing.

not sure what a 300c controller is but is it a traction car with earthquake? in california a pit full of water usually grounds out the EQ string.

I'm an American, but find the word "lift" pretty convenient at times!

The "800 pound gorilla" has to be addressed first!

I'd see what got shorted out in the pit, and when that is resolved, try a re-boot.
I know you checked input signals, but there might still be something amiss.

I say that, because I don't know anything about that system, and can only start with very basic stuff.

re: lift.

ha welcome to our world.our official title is 'lift mechanic'!

to the problem i too dont know what a 300c controler is, ie is it a 401, 411,301 etc. the easy way to test if your water is an issue is to disconnect the line and short the cct to the board out. i wouldnt have thought a safety cct has a serial data system but at least you can move fwd.also clearly the lift doesnt know where it is in the shaft as its showing '0' as an error. does the lift level into floor when you reset the lift from above which would indicate at least terminal slowing to stop works. check this out and let us know how you go.

Uppo72. Yeah I thought it was just "out of step" and didn't know where it was in the shaft. I can move the lift on inspection from the car top and if I leave it between floors and get off and return it to normal operation, the lift just sits there. As far as the controller goes maybe it goes by another mark in England than from over there. It's a hydraulic, and the Cabinet has 3 boards inside. It has a large board with relays mounted on it called RB (relay board) and a processor marked up as LB (logic board) where the inputs are displayed vertically next to a small segment display with two small black buttons used to programme the logic board. The water in the pit has caused problems before....over the last 20 years (since the installation was commissioned) there has been problems with water entering the pit and problems with software failures

out of step for us in melbourne(aus)was borne out of boral elevator climbing ccts here!if the lift will not reset down to the terminal floor then the fact that the floor counter and then the software seeing there is not floor in the register then the intialising software setup.most of the time of late otis gear is of elevonic type software like 401/411 plus otilec lifts containing 201/301/311 etc. if it is then if you have a test tool then you can fault find these types of lifts pretty well.

to me it sound like your logic board has failed and would suggest that you try to find a spare while as i said before try to isolate your pit imputs and outputs. there cant be many on a oilelectric. being a lowrise lift i would be going thru all inputs and outputs testing each(ie the way it counts between floors) physically and go from there.

Try the oldest trick in the book, take the logic board out of the running elevator and put the bad logic board in running elevator. Sounds like you e2 is scrambled.
If the eprom doesn't clear it will not teach...or it will teach too many floors etc. I have had MRS steppers work after taking out the eprom and re-installing them.
Gamma D are notorious for volatile ram problems. I have had the selector/position tape with a magnet on the lowest landing just off a little cause this also.

Hello fellas. Sorry I haven't been back on for a while but apparently the site have ordered a new controller from us because they're sick of the problems they've had with it. I went back to site after 3 days and when I switched it back on it started running!! When I checked with another one of the engineers he said he noticed a capacitor on the board getting really hot and I suspect this is what was stopping the processor resetting when it gets isolated, but again I'm sure it's all down to the water in the pit. Thanks for all the suggestions lads.....speak to ya all soon......peace brothers!!!!

elev8, yep 1st thing you learn is a swap and go but you do have to remember if you can damage the good part also. on an aus brand lift we used to run an unique inverter to drive the lift and i swapped it out for a good 1 from another lift and boom i blew that 1 up too! i should have checked the load 1st as it was shorted.

here ends MY lesson!

Yeah another engineer found a problem with the same board a while ago, swapped it with the other lift in the building and the lift worked proving a fault with the board.....I just didn't have the "bottle" to swap it over because knowing my Lucy it would have absolutely blown that one too and I'd have had 2 lifts out in a retirement home

NB: "bottle" means the confidence to do it and not be afraid of the out come!!

Uppo72.....and everyone else...all your help is very much appreciated...thanks fellas!
