Anyone ever replace bearings on these? Any tips for machine removal and reinstalling?

What’s the typical lifespan on these machines?

MX are great machines, the new nmx is a whole different animal and supposedly more powerful and environmentally friendly etc but haven’t seen a failure yet other than the magnetic encoder and brakes but machine wise they run like a clock

Just for the fun of it. It might be easier to mod an NMX with a non-KONE logic unit such as MCE, without having to replace the machine itself. This is because the Imperial 540 series, a generic knockoff of the NMX uses the same type of amo encoder as the genuine KONE version. In order to install non KONE logic onto an OG MX, you had to purchase a now discontinued special drive from Magnetek called the HPV-900-AF, which also required minor modifications to the machine.

@jjr Are you saying, you can retain the machine without using HPV-AF? I was not a fan of the AF, hit or miss most times, and the support was lousy.

I'm thinking on the new ones you can. The ones with the AMO type encoder (NMX series). This is because the imperial knockoff version uses the same type of encoder. I've never seen this done in the field before. YOu can find the pic of the encoder on this page. Notice it looks the same as on the new style KONE machines. On the old style, you still need the AF, for sure.

Is it possible to retain the controller but replace the machine with an imperial or hollister?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but because the OG NMX (the one with the plug-in AMO encoder, not the MX with the rotary encoder) and the Imperial 540 series use the same type of encoder, it might be possible.

Both Nidec and Hollister told me it can’t be done, need to modernize the controller as well

Was the second generation LCE controller available with the V3F16L or only the KDL16?
