Has anybody seen an internal seal on a Thyssen telescopic do this? Went from no issues to not lasting a few hours without needing a resync. It had NZ oil, and looked like maybe it got hot. Low use car in a climate controlled building, 8 years old.
We've done alot of these. Repacks / check valves / resync issues. Give me more -- but my first impression is your check valves are leaking. Pretty common. But this is a pain in the ass my friend. I'm pretty sure you've got one side leaking and that is throwing them off. Almost positive.
Yes and no. We have it but all we use is the brackets that stick out and hook to the rails for hanging chainfalls before you land the car. (we drill two holes in the actual rail to keep it from pivoting in rail clips). We don't use any more of the kit. Land car, remove gusset (sidestile extension), only one side at a time and remove first piston. We normally just choke them -- they make a threaded eyelet but you lose 6-8" of drift after your mouse it. Then carefully LAY THE PISTON DOWN IN THE PIT AGAINST BACK WALL OR SIDE OF CAR. Rest it against wall and put a rag between to eliminate scratching. Same for piston 2 if a a 3 stage. Replace checks as the pistons are hanging right in front of you with chainfall. Don't try it any other way. You may have to lay on the cartop if out of drift, etc. Then replace packing as you go. This is a dangerous job and it is difficult. But we have done 10 or so and we got really really good at it but would rather not do it any day of the week. Pays well but not even worth it -- its war. You'll see. Gonna need a piston clamp if you have to repick lower.
If you don't use the seal installation tool you will damage the seals as you install them. i have had limited success with using projector sheets, but the tools from TKE work a lot Better. This job isn't that bad, try repacking a 330A....
Yes, compared to a 330a, its easy. We won't eve do them anymore / and we've done quite a few - some Schindler engineer got a raise for turning the jacks upside down ???!!!
Just spin the head back on if you have to repick a section and choke it. Also some of that packing kit makes it nice so you know you didn't cut the seals in those threads putting them in. Cuz those threads are sharp.
I'd rather repack a 330a twin post with 3 stage pistons then one of those tks.. we built a kit and system for doing the schindler packings and start o finish with travel we can knock them out in 2 days depending on how bad the pit is when we get there day 1. The ones that really suck are the 330a single inverted pistons that are right in the middle. The gorman packings can come and be too tight so you can't get the head on and the schindler factory packings can be grabby in leveling and those cabs a flimsy so they rattle and make it sound terrible. They typically break in a little bit after a couple weeks but it's hard to tell the customer that's normal especially if it wasn't doing it before.
Bowtiedrooster16 Tell me about your kit for Schindler inverted 330a please. Done quite a few of these, and now we just turn them down (maybe we just aren't efficient enough). But we are pretty good at the TKs and pretty efficient. And yes, you are right, pit is always a mess on arrival. We had one with about 2 feet of oil in it. But if you keep adding to get by, that is what you get.
