We run an old time shop we stll get 4hrs for a gearless with a selector. Because that is what time it takes to keep it clean and running right. I am the operations manager with 33 years in the trade. Luckly the company is made up by a majority of very talented mechanics with tons of years. With a mix of young guys we have brought up here. Our helpers all rotate out about once a year so new guys get to work all sides of our trade. The exception is repair helpers and adjusters helpers as they need more time to get to see a good mix.I belive that we are seeing the biggest Brain Drain in the history of our buisness and that in about 10 years or less the younger guys now will be in twice the demand that a good mechanic is now. I tell all my young guys they will own this trade shortly. Our company will pay for passing grades for any helper or mechanic that will take night classes. Just as most companys did as I was coming up. The differance is we have no takers. All the good guys did x-tra colledge classes or trade schools. So to any young guy looking for advice go the x-tra mile take the x-tra classes any in not to distant future you will be the head guy making almost twice what your fellows make.
