I have a Kone Mimispace with a V3F16 drive with a overhead motor and machine room. The Elevator vibrates strongly when lift decelerates/accelerates about two seconds before brakes are applied/released. At full speed the car vibrates verry lightly almost unnoticed by passengers. I am thinking of checking the motor tac and brakes. Please advise.

Vibrations are or due dirty encoder,or bad balancing adjustment.First try to clean the encoder,than if the vibrations continues see the distance between the car frame and LWD.It must be 3-4 mm.Than go to menu 6_74 to enable LWD setup.Change the value to minus 1. After that go to 6_99 and change the zero to one for saving the change. than again to 6_74 will see 0 blinking.That means zero load in the car.Accept it with select. Put 50% of the load in the car and in menu 6_74 put the value in kilos.Example for 1600 kg nominal load put 800 kilos and write 800.Push accept and again in 6_99 change 0 to 1 to save changes.Than leave the 6 menu and go to 5_1 and check the value.Restart the lift turning off and waiting for discharge for obout half minute and turn it on.Now try to see how it works.For any manual for KONE- send me email.

How would I go about cleaning a encoder?? Besides making sure the connections are tight, the coupling is tight, if it uses a roller make sure its in good condition, and blow the dust bunnies out. What else should I do when I "clean a dirty encoder"?

I have cleaned faulting encoders a few times. Never on a kcm as they have tach's unless a KDL upgrade has been done. All of my dirty and coders war either governor mount or motor mount, and had grease that wicked into them. I use a cotton q-tip that was soaked with no flash LPS pray and clean the glass disc and sensor.
