I have cleaned faulting encoders a few times. Never on a kcm as they have tach's unless a KDL upgrade has been done. All of my dirty and coders war either governor mount or motor mount, and had grease that wicked into them. I use a cotton q-tip that was soaked with no flash LPS pray and clean the glass disc and sensor.
