What's the weirdest thing found in elevator pits, My father ran route in Daytona, he found a complete Three cushion sofa in elevator pit during spring break. Me- I found some pure silver collector coins in pit, nobody called in missing them. Peace

7-stop college dorm, found a lounge chair, pipe, dime bag of weed and some stroke magazines on the car top. The campus police found the owner pretty easily, his address with dorm # was on the magazines.

A while ago I was cleaning a pit in a hospital. I found a rather large double headed dildo! It actually caught me of guard for a moment.....thought it was a hugh rat. My father once found a motorcycle in an elevator pit....They said the elevator would not level in the basement!!!!Go Figure!

had a bunch of spring breakers in the 90's tear out a COP in Daytona and take it to their room. Yes I said COP. By the time we got there it was magically in the pit. Kind of a found in the pit story.

I was a young mechanic on my 1st route, which of course was pure junk. The city route. All kinds of garbage elevators, from city hall, to the police station. You guys know the routine...
I was given a helper...(Yes we had Maintenance helpers back then), And I decided I would put him to good use. So off a pit cleaning we did go.
Went over to one building with an old dilapidated hydro, opened the doors and sent the helper in the pit with a broom and a trash bag. Forgot to mention...This building was where the police department processed evidence....
So...I'm standing around checking out the police and the police dogs, and I hear my hippie helper exclaim.....DAMN...
I look in the pit and I see him holding about a 2 foot bud of marijuana. Then I looked in the pit and it was full of them. As well as several small baggies filled with white powder.
My helper looked at me and pleadingly begged..."Can we Keep It?...PLEASE?"...I looked around at the lobby full of cops, dogs, etc.. and told him "I don't think so buddy"..
I've never seen a human being so dejected as I called over a cop and showed him our find. He thanked us and called in some more officers to finish the clean up.

sbrmilitia----well that's one way to get ahead in this business. This was in a morgue which was located in the basement after hurricane Ike that devastated Galveston Istand. There was a 150 cadavers located in a large walk in freezer located next to the elevator. We had to get on top of the car and hoist it up so the pit could be pumped out. Along with the head there was a bunch of human sludge. It was absolutely the nastiest thing I have ever had to do. Also being the low man on the totem pole I had to change all the buffer oil in all the traction units. The buffers had no oil in them just nasty sagnant water that stunk to high heaven. I took a bath in the first buffer I change and broke out in hives the next morning. First time I ever got a paid day off.

Not really classified as weird, but really kinda sad. So I'm doing a service call at one of my "seen better days" hotels and in the pit of the middle car are a bunch of "well wishes for the new bride and groom" cards littered about. Maybe 30 cards torn open. "Well crap" I mutter to myself. Dismayed, I scooped them up, realizing there were checks in some, loose checks amidst the torn envelopes and delivered them to the front desk. I'll never forget the look on the mgr's face. Whudda ya think? Hotel worker? Or some skumball who happened to pose as a guest? Or dare I say, a guest? I never had a human head in a pit, but I did get a call for a cat in the pit that was meowing all night long. Ho hum...

I was changing some car call bulbs and I laid my iPhone inside the cop. I buttoned it up with my phone in it. My ring tone is a duck quacking. I called my phone a couple times trying to find it. Shortly after I received a call over the radio that the elevator was quacking.

I had a call that the elevator was chirping. When I got in the overhead I found 2 nests of baby birds built into the missing brick that formed a lattice work that was screened on the inside that made up the hoist way ventilation. I went to the building office with a big can of WD40 and my lighter I told the women about the baby birds and my plan to torch them up!!!!! You should of heard them begging me not to hurt those little babies. I cant help myself sometimes.

Hey, that MEOWING call reminded of a similar one-
I got a call once while working for Otis in a downtown Los Angeles high rise, and was told that there was a "Meowing" coming from the hoistway, like a kitten.
So I was riding the car, listening for noises, but not pushing any floor buttons. (This of course makes the other passengers wonder what you are doing) It was busy enough as it was, what with all the bankers, lawyers, and secretaries bustling about.
So this lady gets in the car, (one who I already knew, had a great sense of humor, and was a fun-type), she asks me what I was doing, so I told her someone heard a kitten meowing, and so I was just looking for a "little pussy"!
You gotta be careful who you joke with, but in this specific case, it was well received and good for a laugh for both of us...
